A Study in Red
Heather’s session had already taken on a life of its own with her fine art angel wing portraits, but I couldn’t resist introducing her to one of my favorite sets, the red satin. It is something I have only brought out a handful of times, which makes it feel extra special every time I do. There is something about the richness of the fabric, the way it wraps and reflects light, that instantly shifts the mood into something bold, cinematic, and unapologetically feminine. Heather had never experienced it before, and watching her settle into it so naturally was magic.
What made this particular set even more unique was the light. I used my signature glamour studio lighting to sculpt and highlight her features. I also pulled in direct sunlight streaming through the red curtains behind her. That combination created a depth and glow that simply cannot be replicated. The red on red, paired with that natural light, gave the images a warmth and intensity that felt almost alive. It was as if the room itself was part of the story.
This is one of the things I love most about what I create. Depending on the time of day, the season, and even the exact quality of the light in that moment, no two sessions are ever the same. These images exist exactly as they were captured. They are completely one of a kind, just like Heather’s experience. And that is what makes them feel so personal, so real, and so unforgettable.
