Sometimes the most beautiful thing about a portrait experience isn't the photograph. It's how you feel about yourself afterward.
I've been a professional photographer for more than 30 years, and I still find myself surprised by the things women share with me after their portrait sessions.
I've heard women describe their experience as life-changing, healing, and even one of the best days of their lives.
Those are powerful words, especially when you consider that many of these women initially came to me simply wanting beautiful photographs.
But somewhere between walking through my studio doors and seeing themselves through my camera, something unexpected can happen.
They begin to see their beauty, sometimes for the very first time, or for the first time in a very long time.
And perhaps even more importantly, they begin to feel their own worth.
Not because a photograph suddenly makes them worthy, but because they've given themselves permission to be seen, celebrated, and cared for.
And that's one of the things I love most about what I do.
It's Not Always Easy to Be in Front of the Camera
Most of the women I photograph aren't professional models.
They're mothers, wives, business owners, professionals, grandmothers, and women navigating all different stages of life.
Some arrive excited and ready for the experience. Others are nervous, unsure of what to expect, or worried that they won't know what to do.
And many tell me they haven't felt particularly beautiful in a long time.
I hear things like, "I'm not photogenic," or "I don't know how to pose," or "I need to lose a little weight first."
I understand those feelings.
We're so accustomed to seeing carefully curated images of other women that it's easy to forget how beautiful real women can be.
But you don't have to know how to pose, have a particular body type, or arrive feeling completely confident.
That's where I come in.
What Happens When You Finally Relax
One of the most important parts of my job has very little to do with my camera.
It's helping you feel comfortable.
I want you to feel as though you can take a deep breath, let your guard down, and simply enjoy being yourself.
There's no expectation that you should know what to do in front of the camera. I'll guide you through the posing, the little adjustments, and all the details that make a beautiful photograph.
And somewhere along the way, something often changes.
The nervousness begins to fade.
The laughter becomes more natural.
You stop thinking quite so much about how you look and begin enjoying how you feel.
Those are some of my favorite moments to photograph.
Not because everything is perfectly posed, but because I can see the real woman beginning to shine through.
A Day Where the Rest of the World Can Wait
One of the things I've been very intentional about at Lust + Love is creating an experience that engages all your senses.
I want you to feel as though you've stepped away from the outside world for a little while.
When you arrive, you're welcomed into a beautiful, private space where everything is about you.
There's a soft spa robe waiting for you, sparkling beverages to enjoy, and a selection of sweet and salty treats to nibble on throughout your visit.
Beautiful, fun music fills the studio, setting the mood and adding to the excitement of the day.
It's a chance to settle in, relax, and simply enjoy being taken care of.
You don't have to think about the laundry waiting at home, the emails you haven't answered, the appointments you need to make, or all the people who usually need something from you.
For this little stretch of time, none of that matters.
This is your space to forget about the rest of the world and enjoy a day that's entirely about you.
And I think that's something many women don't give themselves nearly often enough.
From the moment you arrive, I want you to feel pampered, comfortable, and genuinely excited about what's ahead.
Because this isn't just about having your photograph taken.
It's about giving yourself permission to be the center of attention for a change, and remembering that you're just as deserving of time, attention, and care as everyone else in your life.
Seeing Yourself Through Someone Else's Eyes
We can be incredibly critical of ourselves.
We notice the things we'd like to change. We compare ourselves to how we looked ten or twenty years ago. We focus on the little imperfections that no one else seems to notice.
And sometimes, we forget to see the whole picture.
One of the things I love about portrait photography is the opportunity to show a woman something she may not recognize in herself.
Her expression. Her strength. Her femininity. Her sense of humor. Her beauty.
Sometimes it's a soft, romantic portrait. Sometimes it's something dramatic and glamorous. Sometimes it's a photograph that captures a side of her personality she rarely gets to express.
Whatever the style, I want the photographs to feel like her.
Not a completely different woman.
Not someone she thinks she's supposed to be.
Her.
And when she sees those photographs, I hope she recognizes more than her physical beauty.
I hope she sees a woman who is deserving of being admired, appreciated, and celebrated.
A woman whose value has never depended on her age, her weight, or how closely she measures up to someone else's idea of beauty.
Why Some Women Call the Experience Healing
I've had clients describe their portrait experience as healing, and I don't take that lightly.
I don't believe a photography session can solve everything a woman may be going through, and I would never promise that it could.
But I do understand why being photographed in a supportive, comfortable environment can feel meaningful.
For some women, it's the first time in years they've done something entirely for themselves.
For others, it's an opportunity to celebrate a milestone, acknowledge a difficult chapter they've moved through, or simply reconnect with a part of themselves that has taken a back seat to everything else in life.
And sometimes, there's no particular reason at all.
A woman simply decides that she wants to feel beautiful and have photographs that celebrate her.
I think that's reason enough.
But I also think there's something meaningful about making that decision.
About saying, even if only to yourself, that you're worth the time, the attention, and the investment.
Not because you need to earn it.
Simply because you matter.
The Experience Should Be Just as Beautiful as the Photographs
At Lust + Love, I don't want you to feel like you're simply arriving for an appointment, having your photographs taken, and going home.
I want the experience itself to be something you look forward to and remember.
That means taking the time to get to know you, understanding what you're comfortable with, and creating photographs that reflect your personality.
It means having an opportunity to slow down, enjoy the atmosphere, be pampered, and let someone else take care of the details for a change.
And it means being able to laugh, relax, ask questions, and trust that you're in experienced hands.
After more than three decades photographing people, I've learned that the connection between a photographer and her client is every bit as important as the technical skill involved in creating a beautiful portrait.
When you feel comfortable with the person behind the camera, it changes the entire experience.
And I believe you can see that in the photographs.
These Photographs Are for You
Sometimes women book a boudoir session as a gift for someone they love.
And there's absolutely nothing wrong with that.
But I always hope the experience becomes a gift to themselves, too.
Because long after the excitement of the session has passed, you'll still have those photographs.
Photographs of yourself at this moment in your life.
Not after you've lost weight. Not when you're younger. Not when everything feels perfect.
Right now.
And years from now, I hope you'll look at them and remember not only how beautiful you looked, but how wonderful you felt creating them.
I hope they remind you that you deserve to be seen, to take up space, and to celebrate yourself without needing a reason or anyone else's permission.
More Than Beautiful Photographs
When a woman tells me her portrait experience was one of the best days of her life, I know she's talking about something more than the photographs.
She's talking about feeling comfortable, feeling celebrated, and perhaps seeing herself in a way she hasn't before.
She's remembering the laughter, the music, the atmosphere, the feeling of being pampered, and having a day when she didn't have to worry about anyone else.
But perhaps she's also remembering something even more important.
That she's beautiful.
That she's worthy.
And that taking time for herself isn't something she needs to feel guilty about.
While every woman's experience is different, that's what I hope to create for every client who comes to Lust + Love.
Beautiful photographs are always the goal.
But if you leave feeling a little more confident, a little more connected to yourself, and a little more aware of your own worth, that means just as much to me.
Your Experience Is Waiting
There are so many things we tell ourselves we'll do someday. When life slows down. When we feel more confident. When we've lost a few pounds. When everyone else has been taken care of.
But sometimes, the most wonderful thing you can do is decide that today, you're worth making the time for.
At Lust + Love, I want you to have more than beautiful photographs. I want you to have a day when you're celebrated, pampered, and reminded of just how extraordinary you are.
And when you look at your portraits years from now, I hope you remember not only the woman you saw in those photographs, but the way you felt that day.
Beautiful. Confident. Worthy.
I'd love to create that experience for you.
